Assisting with Care Coordination in a Community Health Clinic
Since the summer of 2014, I've volunteered as a Care Coordinator assistant at Sea Mar Community Health Centers in White Center, just south of Seattle. I'm involved in a variety of clinic jobs, including (but not limited to):
-
Spanish-English translation for providers,
-
Wound care and procedure assistance,
-
Calling chronic care patients (those with diabetes, hypertension, etc.) and encouraging them to make appointments,
-
Reconciling publically-supplied vaccine stocks with an online state database,
-
Documenting public health measurements for insurance purposes.
My experience working with Sea Mar has been incredible not only as a preview of the field of healthcare careers, but also in my growth as an individual. Overall, I've learned more about the importance of diversity and valuing others as a result of their inherent human dignity.
